The Swatch TTR 6-Star Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland ended last weekend with amazing results for Billabong’s top riders in both the Men’s and Women’s fields. Ideal weather conditions made the competition even more fun for the riders, who had three chances to put together a winning run.
American Jamie Anderson dominated the slopestyle finals claiming the first BEO championship title of her career. She finished 9th overall in halfpipe which moves her to TTR World No.1, an astonishing 100 points ahead of her closest rival Kelly Clark (USA).
“It’s my first time at the Burton European Open and it rocked”, said Jamie. “It was a super-fun contest and I’m really stoked to win, especially because there are so many good riders here like Cheryl Maas and Torah Bright, who are riding on a super high level.”
With Anderson stomping huge 540s off the kickers, busting out sick eggplants on the Quarterpipe and bringing back her buttery rail combos, there was no question as to why she won the Title. Jamie Anderson (USA) took the lead after her first run and never let go of it, executing an impressive run.
Top Brit shredder Jenny Jones took a very close second place in the slopestyle, choosing the big kicker lines and stomping huge backside and frontside 360’s, moving her to TTR World No.4.
The new Swatch TTR World No.1 Risto Mattila (FIN) posted his sixth 6-Star TTR result at the Burton European Open Halfpipe competition with an incredible 70-point lead over No.2 Andy Finch. He’s been pulling out all the stops with three 2nd place finishes, and another three within the top ten.
“My season has been really good with four good results,” said Risto. “At the European open I had two possibilities to get my six results. I still have the Nippon Open and the US Open, so there’s plenty of competitions left to get more results. I’m still trying hard.”
There are still two more 6-Star events, as well as a few 5-Star events coming up but with Risto’s consistency to date in the tour he has a good chance of becoming the Swatch TTR Tour Champion this season.
All the top TTR riders will be on their game with just a few chance remaining to post some 6-Star results and bag a share of the $250,000 prize purse.
